Overview

A three-year MLS veteran out of the University of Tulsa, Lawson Vaughn enjoyed a breakout season in 2007 before missing the bulk of 2008 to injuries. Playing primarily as a right back, but capable of moving up into the midfield, Vaughn has played 48 MLS matches (40 starts) as of the start of the 2009 season, notching a goal and three assists in his career. The Georgia native was drafted by Chivas USA with its third-round pick (25th overall) in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.

MLS Experience

2008: Struggled with injuries throughout the season, playing a total of seven matches (all as a starter) in 2008. He broke several bones in his face and needed two surgeries after being struck by an attempted bicycle kick from Dwayne De Rosario on May 3 against Houston, and also battled left ankle tendonitis and an MCL sprain before being put on the season-ending injury list on Sept. 15.

2007: Became a regular for the Red-and-White, playing 24 regular season games (starting 22) and, as well as all 90 minutes in the playoffs. Scored his first MLS goal in a 2-2 tie against D.C. United on Sept. 6, and also had two assists on the season.

2006: As a rookie, Vaughn played 17 regular-season games for Chivas USA (starting 11), logging 1046 minutes, and played all of the team's two playoff matches.

College

Vaughn began his college career at the University of South Carolina, before transferring to the University of Tulsa in 2004. In four seasons of college eligibility, he played in 88 games (starting 86) recording 6 goals and 14 assists.

Youth Teams

As a senior at Lassiter High School in his hometown of Marietta, Vaughn was named 5-A Georgia High School Player of the Year in 2002.

Personal

Older brother Lewis is a captain in the Air Force and taught Lawson how to play soccer, and also has a younger brother and sister, who are twins. All four grew up playing soccer and tennis, since Lawson's parents were both tennis players… Favorite TV shows include Law and Order, Fringe, and 24… Loves music, and enjoys Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and Eminem…Is a fan of Atlanta sports teams, including the Falcons, Hawks, and Braves… Favorite soccer memory is his first MLS goal, against D.C. United in 2007.
