Overview

Born on January 29 in Hannah Town, Jamaica, Shavar Thomas is a veteran of six MLS seasons and a member of the Jamaican National Team. Since joining Dallas as a first-round pick (10th overall) in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft, the University of Connecticut product has played 133 MLS regular-season games (starting 125), logging 7,291 minutes and registering 3 goals and 1 assist. During his four seasons in MLS, Thomas played for Dallas (2003) and Kansas City (2004-2006). He was acquired by Los Angeles on March 23, 2007 but did not play in a regular-season match for the Galaxy before coming to the Red-and-White.

MLS Experience

2008: Played a total of 19 matches (starting 18) on the backline for the Red-and-White, missing some time due to injuries.

2007: In his first season with Chivas USA, Thomas enjoyed an excellent season for MLS' second-best defense, starting all 23 of the matches he played.

2006: In his final of three seasons with Kansas City, Thomas set a career high in both matches played (26, 24 starts) and minutes (2,147), and also added a goal and an assist.

2005: Began the season on the Wizards' bench, but made his first start of the 2005 season at Columbus on May 14 and then started each of the next 23 matches in central defense, missing just two matches the rest of the season, both due to injury.

2004: Made his Wizards debut against Chicago on April 3, playing the full 90 minutes, and played 25 matches on the season (22 starts). Was used as a defensive substitute the final two games of the season, helping preserve back-to-back shutouts and clinch the Western Conference Regular Season Title.

2003: Drafted by the Dallas Burn with the 10th overall pick in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft, and appeared in 15 matches including 14 starts and scored one goal during his rookie campaign.

International

Thomas most recently helped Jamaica capture the Digicel Caribbean Championship in December 2008, playing 90 minutes in a 2-0 victory over Grenada in the championship match. Made his debut with the Jamaican National Team in 1999, and has since logged 12 international appearances, including in World Cup qualifying. He has also represented Jamaica at a number of youth levels, including with the Under-20's at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina.

College

Thomas played two years at the University of Connecticut, helping the Huskies compile a 32-11-2 record, while appearing in 36 games during his two years with the team. As a sophomore in 2002, Thomas was named to the All-Big East and NSCAA All-New England First Team and was a second team All-American.
