Overview
Brazilian midfielder Paulo Nagamura has been one of the key players in the Chivas USA lineup since joining the team from Toronto at the beginning of the 2007 season. He began his professional career with the youth teams at his hometown São Paulo FC. In 2001, Nagamura joined Arsenal FC in England, where his Under-19 team won its league in 2002. The defensive midfielder moved to the United States in 2005 when he joined the Los Angeles Galaxy, where he won both the MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup in his first season. On Nov. 17, 2007, Nagamura was selected by Toronto FC in the Expansion Draft, and after playing four games with the Canadian side, he was traded to Chivas USA in May 2007.MLS Experience
2008: Nagamura logged a total of 2,062 minutes in the regular season, third on the team behind Francisco Mendoza (2,434) and Jesse Marsch (2,138). Scored twice and had three assists, and his strong play in defensive midfield earned him Chivas USA Defender of the Year honors.2007: Played 22 matches in the regular season with Chivas USA after arriving in May in a trade with Toronto FC. With Toronto, played four games, all as a starter. Also played both playoff games, accumulating 180 minutes in the two matches.
2006: Played 29 regular season matches with the Galaxy (26 as a starter), logging 2,372 minutes and four assists.
2005: In his first season in Major League Soccer, Nagamura made 25 appearances for the Galaxy (24 starts), notching two assists. Helped the team to the double, winning both the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup.
