Overview
Jesse Marsch is one of just four remaining MLS Originals, having played in Major League Soccer during each of the league's 13 seasons. After graduating from Princeton University, March won the first three MLS Cups, at D.C. United in 1996 and 1997 before moving to the Chicago Fire prior to the 1998 season. A key member of the Fire from 1998-2005, Marsch joined Chivas USA in 2006. The central midfielder has two caps for the U.S. National Team. Jesse is married to Kim Marsch, with whom he shares three children: Emerson, Maddux and Lennon Ramone.
MLS Experience
2008: Scored four goals in 25 games (24 as a starter), and was a consistent force in central midfield. Missed time in August and September due to a broken jaw suffered in the final Honda Super Clásico against the Galaxy.2007: Won the Chivas Regal Award for the player "who best represents the spirit of Chivas USA" as he played 28 matches, all as a starter, notching two goals and four assists.
2006: Was reunited with Head Coach Bob Bradley at Chivas USA after serving under the coach in Chicago, D.C., and at Princeton. Started all 30 matches for the Red-and-White in his first year with the club.
2005: In his final season with Chicago, tied his career high in goals (5) while playing in 28 games (starting 22).
2004: Missed the first 19 games due to offseason ankle surgery, and finished the year with eight starts, and two substitute appearances.
2003: In 19 games (16 starts), helped the Chicago Fire win its first-ever Supporters Shield with five goals, tying a career-high. Missed the first nine games of the season due to a right fibula stress fracture. Helped the team win the Eastern Conference Championship and the club's third U.S. Open Cup.
2002: Was the only Chicago player to appear in all 28 matches, and was a starter in every game.
2001: Appeared in 27 games (all as a starter), earning his first MLS All-Star nod. Became the first Fire player to play in 100 games for the club on June 23 against New England.
2000: Played in 31 of the team's 32 matches (starting 29), scoring two goals (both game-winners) and notching eight assists, a career high. Helped the club reach the MLS Cup, and also won the U.S. Open Cup for the second time.
1999: Played 29 matches (starting 27), scoring one goal and adding two assists.
1998: Helped the Fire to an expansion-year double, winning both the MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup. Marsch played every minute of the playoffs and scored a game-winner against the Galaxy in the semifinals.
1997: Playing primarily as a striker, scored three goals and added three assists in 11 appearances (one start) for D.C. United, helping the team to a second straight MLS Cup.
1996: In his first season as a professional, made four appearances (all as a substitute) for United, who won the first MLS Cup.
International
Has made two appearances for the U.S. National Team, first on Nov. 11, 2001, in a World Cup Qualifier at Trinidad & Tobago, and then in a 4-1 friendly win over Sweden on June 2, 2007, under Head Coach Bob Bradley. Was a member of the U.S. U-18 National Team from 1989-1991.
College
Played midfield and forward for Princeton under Bob Bradley, finishing his collegiate career with 29 goals and 15 assists. Suffered a knee injury in 1993, but came back in 1994 and 1995 to lead the Ivy League in scoring both years, earning second team All-Ivy honors in '94 and first team honors the following year.
Personal
Is married to Kim and has a daughter, Emerson, and two sons, Maddux and Lennon. His parents are Larry and Sally… Learned to play soccer from his cousin, Ron Peck, when he was five years old… Watched Maradona while growing up and always looked to Albertini as an example.
