Born Dejair Jorge Ferreira on Dec. 14, 1977 in Brasília, Dejair joined the youth system of Brazilian giants Botafogo at age 19, playing three years with the Rio de Janeiro club before transferring to Sampaio Corrêa in 1999. In all, during his 12-year career as a professional in Brazil, Dejair has won two national championships, both with Criciúma (Serie B, 2002; Serie C, 2006), as well as state championships with club sides Moto Clube (Maranhão, 2000) and ABC FC (Rio Grande do Norte, 2008).
