Overview
Jim Curtin joined Chivas USA in a trade with the Chicago Fire in January 2008, and the big defender played 18 games (15 starts) for the Red-and-White. Curtin was fan favorite for the Fire, he was an important part of the team's defense for seven seasons after he was selected with the 29th pick of the 2001 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. A starter in the 2004 MLS All-Star game, Curtin has played a total of 151 games in the league, including 70 straight from October 2003 to May 2005, and won Chicago's "Defender of the Year" award in 2004. The back also was also a member of the 2003 and 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup-winning teams with the Fire.A Philadelphia native, Curtin is also a noted philanthropist, having worked with the Urban Initiatives soccer program, a non-profit organization that works with inner-city and underprivileged children. He was also the Chicago Fire's honoree at the 2006 Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards for his charity work.
MLS Experience
2008: Curtin played 18 games (15 starts), scoring one goal, which came on the final day of the season, when he knocked in a rebound in the 90th minute to give the Red-and-White a 1-1 draw with Houston. It was his first goal since April of 2006.2007: In his final season with the Fire, Curtin played 11 games (starting 10), missing a large part of the season due to injuries.
2006: In 11 games (seven starts), Curtin scored one goal while missing three months of the season due to a broken foot. Was part of the squad that won the U.S. Open Cup, his second with the Fire.
2005: Logged more than 2000 minutes for the fourth consecutive season with the Fire, setting a career high with three assists, and adding a goal. Set Chicago records with 68 straight matches started and 70 straight matches played before seeing those streaks come to an end on May 21.
2004: Was one of only five players in the league to play all 2,700 minutes of the 2004 season, notching one assist in his 30 games. Became the eighth player to appear in 100 matches for the Fire on Oct. 2. Was voted into the starting lineup for the All-Star game, playing 90 minutes for the Eastern Conference's 3-2 win over the West.
2003: Was one of only two players to appear in all 30 of Chicago's matches, helping the team to eight shutouts. Played every minute of the Fire's run through the U.S. Open Cup, helping the team win the competition for the third time.
2002: Made 24 appearances (22 starts), scoring what remains a career-best two goals, including his first ever goal on July 27 against the MetroStars.
2001: An MLS Rookie of the Year contender, Curtin finished the season having played 18 games (12 starts) and registering one assist.
College
Curtin was a two-time first team All-Big East selection after his junior and senior seasons, scoring four goals in his final two years. Was the only Villanova player to make every start in the 1998 season, making 17 appearances and earning second team All-Big East honors. Was also named Big East Rookie of the Year in 1997.

Wife is Jen, and daughter Ryan turned one year old on Feb. 6, 2009… Brother Jeff Curtin played alongside Jim with the Chicago Fire in 2006 and 2007, and retired with D.C. United in 2008… Favorie music includes classic rock - Led Zepplin, Allman Brothers, as well as newer groups like Kings of Leon and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Goes to concerts whenever he has time… Is a huge Philadelphia sports fan, and roots for the Phillies, Eagles, Sixers and Flyers… Best soccer memories include the two Open Cup championships with Chicago, wearing his father's old number (33) in the game, and trading jerseys with Paulo Maldini after a friendly with A.C. Milan…
