Highlights
Bobby Burling made his Major League Soccer debut in 2008, and led all center backs on Chivas USA with 1,659 minutes in 20 games (18 starts). The Loyola Marymount University graduate joined Chivas USA as a Developmental Player on April 11, 2007, and played nine games for the Reserve Team during the year (five starts), playing a total of 478 minutes and scoring 2 goals. Born October 15, 1984, in Clear Lake City, Texas, Burling's father was in the Air Force and the family spent time in many locations, including three years in England, but Burling went to high school in Monument, Colorado. At LMU, he majored in Business Marketing and graduated in 3.5 years.
MLS Experience
2008: Made his MLS debut on May 11, 2008, in a 2-1 loss to New England, and went on to play 20 matches (18 as a starter). Led all Chivas USA center backs in minutes during the 2008 MLS season.2007: Joined the Red-and-White as a Developmental Player on April 11, 2007, and did not make a first-team appearance during the season, but played nine games (five starts) for the Reserve Team, scoring two goals. Was originally drafted by the LA Galaxy as the 45th overall pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft.
College
After four years at nearby Loyola Marymount University, Burling finished an accomplished career ranked in the top six of the LMU records in goals, assists, and points, and led the team in scoring as a senior despite having switched to central defender from his usual forward position. His final year on the team he was a captain and was named team MVP. He was named three times to the All-West Coast Conference teams, and was on the NSCAA All-Far West second team in 2006, and third team in 2004.
Youth Teams
Graduated in 2003 from Lewis-Palmer High School in Monument, Colo., and was a four year letterwinner in soccer and basketball, captaining both teams. Earned a number of state honors for his accomplishments in both sports, and was selected to the Colorado coaches' all-star game in his final three years at Lewis-Palmer. Is the all-time leading scorer on the Lewis-Palmer soccer team.
Personal
Parents are Jim and Micci; played soccer with his older brother, Jimmy at LMU, and his sister Becci is on the volleyball team at Duke University…Lives in El Segundo with his brother, a former teammate from LMU, and two high school basketball teammates…Favorite book is Hatchet, favorite movies include Dumb and Dumber, Old School, and Bad Boys, favorite music is Dave Matthews Band…Best soccer memory is winning the Colorado state title (3-0) at Lewis-Palmer on a team with his brother and current roommate
